Meditation can be like a Bitter Medicine

Meditation can be like a bitter medicine at first

Meditation is not always love at first sight. When I first meditated, I was immediately sold, but that is far from always the case. It can also be confronting, as we normally always have many distractions around us. This prevents us from confronting ourselves. When we meditate, all those distractions fall away, and we are left only with ourselves. It is sometimes compared to a medicine. When we are ill, it may be necessary to take a medicine. This medicine can have a bitter taste and is not something to look forward to. If we do not take the medicine because of its bitter taste, it is not very wise. It is necessary for us to get better.

Meditation is the same; it may not feel nice right away, but it takes time to experience the beneficial effects. No medicine works immediately. If you don’t like to meditate it is perfectly normal. Our ego has a certain way of dealing with the things we feel and wants us to change everything around us, but not ourselves. But don’t give up too easy. If meditation is difficult at the moment than make the sessions more short and try to read more, so that you know better why you should not give up. It is all part of the process and totally normal.
